Research by the university of Antwerp showed that 1 out of 4 Belgian football players are facing financial problems from time to time. Another study in the United Kingdom showed that 60% of the Premier League players face financial problems within 5 years after retirement.
Social pressure, bad investments and an unrealistic spending pattern are (among others) to blame according to Stijn.
